Ruiping Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The meaning and distribution of Ruiping Fm are similar to Daye Gr in narrow sense. In 1982, Zhang Renjie et al. proposed that the Daye Gr should be used to represent the Early Triassic carbonate rocks in Hubei area, the Daye Formation should be abandoned, and the Ruiping Fm should be built to represent the Early Triassic Induan-age carbonate rocks. The named section is located on both sides of Ruiping Road, Yuanbaozui Township, Lichuan City, western Hubei Province.

Lithology and Thickness
The lithology is stable, mainly composed of thin-middle limestone with medium thick limestone, and mudstone and shale at the lower part. Generally, it can be divided into four lithologic member from bottom to top. First member is yellow-green, gray-black mudstone and shale with a small amount of thin-bed limestone, with a thickness of 115 m. Second member is mainly composed of gray and gray black intermediate limestone with medium thick and thin limestone and a small amount of calcareous mudstone, with a thickness of 106 m. Third member is mainly composed of thin and thin bed limestone with medium thick bed limestone, with clear lamination and a thickness of 77 m. Fourth member is mainly thick to medium thick limestone with thin limestone, and the upper part is burma-like limestone and a small amount of dolomitic limestone. Thickness is 117 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The bottom boundary is marked by the 8 to 13 cm thick pyrite hydrocloud parent material collophanite-bearing gravel sandstone and calcareous hydromica micrystalline dolomite. It is conformable contact with the underlying Upper Permian Changxing Fm or Dalong Fm
Upper contact
Regional extent
The formation is mainly distributed in western Hubei, eastern Sichuan, central Guizhou and the lower Yangtze region.

It contains bivalve fossils Towapteria scythicum zone, Pseudoclaraia wangi zone, Claraia stachei zone, Claraia aurita zone, Eumorphotis multiformis zone, ammonoid Ophiceras-Lytophiceras zone, Gyronites-Prionolobus zone, Koninckites-Xenodiscoides zone, Flemingites zone, conodont Hindeodus minutus zone, Isarcicella isarcica zone, Neogondolella carinata zone, Neospathodus dieneri zone, N. peculiaris zone and N. pakistanensis zone.
